Long version:

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been around AWOL for the last couple of months. Firstly, to those of you with outstanding customer service issues due to my absence, my sincere apologies – I have the details and will aim to get to you all over the next week.

Secondly, the reason for my absence is, indirectly, due to Second Life, and is the reason I want to say a big THANK YOU to you all. You guys have changed my life, quite literally. Yes, that includes you! How so? Well, it’s a long-ish story…

When I joined SL, back in February 2007, I was in a strange place in my life. My daughter was 2 years old and I was a full-time stay-at-home Mum. I’d also been sober and in recovery from alcoholism for just over 18 months, but was physically still not brilliantly well, and had major self-esteem issues. It had become clear to me over those 18 months that stress was majorly bad for my health in a number of ways, which left me in a quandry as the profession I had trained in is inherantly stress filled.

As I found and joined Second Life my life goals were to remain clean and sober a day at a time, but further than that I was pretty much clueless. I really wasn’t expecting my experiences in SL to change my life in any way, but they did, almost right from the start. I found the Alcoholics Anonymous group within a few days and met some amazing recovering alcoholics from around the world. I got a job hosting in a club, and soon found myself in the position of manager, my self confidence majorly boosted as people believed in me. Then one day I met Random Calliope and we quickly became close friends.

I’m not sure he was aware at the time, but Random lay down the gauntlet that ultimately led to me making jewellery. As we were chatting about his amazing jewellery designs, I commented how I wished I was as skilled as him at torturing prims. He replied, in my mind’s eye with a wickedly cheeky glint in his eye, that my skill was at flirting. (Me?! A flirt?! Surely not :-O ). It was a bit of fun, but my crazy brain heard “you don’t have a skill in SL other than flirting” and for me, competitive and determined as I am, the gauntlet was laid down – if it was the last thing I did I was going to show I had other skills, and to boot, was going to learn to torture prims like a pro! That was in November 2007, almost exactly two years ago, and a few months later ~flirt~ opened.

Cut to summer this year. With my daughter due to start school in September I started thinking about what I would do once she wasn’t at home all day. After speaking to the career advisor at my local college I had narrowed my thoughts down to two things. Either I could take a short part-time course and become a counsellor, which was related to my previous professional experience but would be more self-paced/less stressful. Or, I could do something absolutely completely different, totally unrelated to my education, training and experience to date, but something I really wanted to do: properly learn a 3D graphics program and become a 3D artist. The first would get me back in the work market (and earning) the quickest, the second would be at least 2 years full time study. And start the following week.

Well, as you probably know, I chose the latter, and went back to college in September, 20 years after I went to university.  The course is full time and way more demanding than I ever considered. Juggling homework, school runs and family commitments with basic functions like eating and sleeping is fun, not. Some strange things have had me totally flumoxed – like…. not being expected to research/write stuff to a professional standard (it takes me 3 hours to do homework the 18 year olds get done in 30 minutes because I’m used to having to do things perfectly or better). But… I’m LOVING it. I’ve learnt that I can draw! Seriously well! And that 3DSMax isn’t as scary as it looks (almost, but not quite). I actually look forward to getting up in the morning and going to college. But better than all of that is that for the first time in over 5 years I actually have an idea what I want to do with my life – something I enjoy doing and that makes me happy.

So I’m left feeling very grateful. Grateful that Second Life exists and that I found it. Grateful to the anonymous members of AA in SL who have accepted and loved me warts and all. Grateful to Random Calliope for unknowingly laying down the gauntlet that led me to discover 3D design and reawaken my artistic talent, and just for being a true and dear friend. Grateful to those people that have given their time, energy, friendship and love to help me with ~flirt~, most notably Peter Stindberg and Lorrie Jefferson. And lastly but not least, to you, the people who have bought the stuff I’ve made – without your support and encouragement I’d have given up.

This sale is my small way of saying thank you for all of that. Second Life rocks

State-Of-The_Art Sculpted Gemstone Technology

The sculpted gemstones featured have been painstakingly developed by Skip Bernard of Sculptacular with extreme mathematical accuracy.  ” Created using the formulars of Marcel Tolkowsky (american standard cut ) and Prof. Eppler (german cut), these diamond sculpts are of extreme precision and realistic appearance”.

Updated Scripting

Rings are all scripted with the newest version of the ~flirt~ Multiscript, with the familiar texture-change and resizing options, together with the ~flirt~ Easyfit System.  This version also includes new features:

• Glow on/off
• Delete all scripts

There are also some bug-fixes, including eliminating cross-talk between worn items of scripted jewellery.

Exclusive to the Jewelry Expo is this gift from ~flirt~. Scripted with the newest version of the ~flirt~ multiscript, over 140 texture combinations are possible, choosing between 12 precious metals and 12 crystals.  Versions pre-attached to the mouth and chin are provided, but should these not be suitable, the ~flirt~ Easyfit System will make re-positioning on a new attachment point a breeze.

Tiffany Double Strand Necklace & Drop Earrings in Ruby

The Tiffany jewelry range was inspired, unsurprisingly, by the designs of the jewelers Tiffany & Co. of London. As with every design, the finished product is rarely identical to the inspiration, the process of building, the qualities of the prims and the limitations and lack of limits of Second Life each adding to it’s uniqueness.

The Tiffany Collection, as well as all ~flirt~ jewelry, is fitted with a resize script where applicable to enable quick and easy resizing with a single click. Please ensure you are in a script enabled region and left click your jewelry, then follow the intuitive menu that appears.  Now I ask you, how simple is that?  We strongly advise that you make a back-up copy of your jewelry prior to fitting, and use a pose stand.

Skinkie Winkler is the designer and creator behind ~flirt~ fine jewelry, hand crafted 100% prim highly detailed jewelry of a quality you just won’t find elsewhere on the grid. Skinkie joined Second Life in February 2007, initially working in the SL club scene and ultimately co-owning a popular mainstream club. I go to my inventory and open my jewelry box, looking for a shiney bauble to capture my attention. I am NOT disappointed. ::grins:: Of course I’m not. My jewelry box is full of ~flirt~ fine jewelry. Reaching inside, I pull out an old favorite of mine, FRAGILE!. I smile as I slip the necklace around my throat. I hum to the radio as I clip the earrings on my ears and place a bangle on my wrist.

The marvelous FRAGILE! series is a high couture statement. This beautiful series includes individual pieces that were hand-crafted from glass and sterling silver, and it’s to-die-for! I’m certain that this series is sure to become an “old favorite” of yours as it is mine! FRAGILE! represents our innermost self and how we choose to display it to the outside world. Sometimes we feel tender, easily broken and sensitive. We choose either to display this and take a risk of getting hurt, or to protect ourselves, sheathing it from harm… but also covering it’s reflective beauty. Skinkies’ talent holds no limits, as evidenced by this FRAGILE! Unpredictable Necklace with black glass. I think it will make a marvelous addition to the series. Shhhhh… don’t tell anyone. ::grins::

What IS ~flirt~ Easyfit?

Simply put, it’s merely a semi-transparent sphere attached to your jewellery that can:

• Help you line up the jewellery correctly on your avatar
• Make finding attached jewellery embedded inside your avatar a breeze – no more needing to cam inside!
• Be made invisible when not needed
• Be resized to your preference

Easyfit came about as Lorrie (~flirt~ CSR) and I were talking about how difficult it can be to fit, in particular, ~flirt~ two part necklaces.  Due to the huge variations in avatar size a complaint we kept hearing was that Part 2 of the necklace was hidden inside the chest on attachment. One option was to sell the jewellery attached further out from the body, but then *everyone* would need to re-position it rather than just those.. well, more well-endowed in the chest department So Easyfit was born. A prim large enough to be at least partially visible outside the avatar mesh, but able to be hidden.

Whilst this system is perhaps most helpful for positioning two-part necklaces and body piercings, as all ~flirt~ jewellery is built and supplied at it’s smallest setting (as minimum size is the limiting factor in SL builds) we have included it with all pieces.  The Easyfit prim is textured with the central axes marked in familiar colours, aiding alignment with whichever body part it is being fitted to.

How do I use ~flirt~ Easyfit?

Before You Start

1. Make a copy of all pieces of your jewellery PRIOR to making any adjustments.  If the worst comes to the worst you will be able to delete and start again.  I would also suggest storing a copy somewhere safe (inside a storage prim in-world) in case of inventory loss.
2. USE A POSE STAND. Seriously guys, you can’t make fine adjustments to any attachment whilst your avatar is flailing around being moved by your multi-stand AO. I know, you look like a dork when on a pose stand, but better five minutes doing that than walking around looking like a dork with your earrings poking out of your neck! Besides, it makes the whole debacle so much easier.  Heck, if professional builders need to do it then you do too!

ALWAYS Use A Pose Stand

Rather than cluttering up your inventory with countless posestands I have started embedding one in the notecard that comes with your jewellery (click the object icon and choose “copy to inventory”). If you still can’t find one, pick one up for free from the store, or from XStreetSL.

Basic Jewellery Fitting Using ~flirt~ Easyfit

1. Wear your jewellery.
2. Left click anywhere on the jewellery. A blue menu dialogue will open at the top right of your screen.  Choose “All Prims“.
3. Use Hide/Reveal to toggle Easyfit prim visibility on and off.
4. If your jewellery needs to be resized, left click again, “All Prims” then “Resize“.  Adjust size up or down as required. NOTE: All ~flirt~ jewellery is supplied near the smallest possible size.  Scripted resizing *will* make it smaller but may, after approx. minus 10-15%, distort the build.
5. Once sized, right click on the attachment and choose “Edit”.  When the Edit Window opens, ensure RULER MODE is set to “Attachment“.
6. Use the red, blue and green arrows to move the jewellery into the correct alignment.  The Easyfit prim has axis lines to help line up your jewellery with your avatar.
7. When you are finished, simply click the attachment again to hide the Easyfit prim.

Using ~flirt~ Easyfit for Hidden/Embedded Attachments

So, you’ve found your stunning new two-part necklace in your inventory and clicked “wear” but only the part around the neck is visible. I can hear the cussing from here   Fear not, retrieving that missing part no longer requires the camming skills of a virtual cardiothoracic surgeon hunting for a miscreant swab!

Below is the five point plan for retrieving embedded jewellery using Easyfit:

1. Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+T to highlight transparent prims.
2. The Easyfit prim attached to your jewellery will glow red even if it is not revealed.
3. Right Click on the red Easyfit sphere, and choose “Edit“. Ensure Ruler Mode is set to “Attachment“.
4. Use the BLUE and GREEN arrows to move the attachment out from inside the avatar mesh until it is fully visible. You should not need to use the Red arrow as your jewellery comes aligned to the mid-line. (see Fig 3.1)
5. Position as above.

Adjusting Two-Part Necklaces

Two-part necklaces are notoriously difficult to fit perfectly,  but there are a few tricks to make it easier… including of course, using Easyfit.

1. Wear your jewellery and follow instructions above to bring any embedded attachments out from inside your avatar/resize.
2. It is suggested that you fit Part 1 before fitting Part 2.
3. The Easyfit prims for Part’s 1 and 2 have been positioned such that when correctly aligned they will be approximately on top of each other.  This will vary if the jewellery has been resized significantly, so should simply be used as a guide.
4. Use the BLUE and GREEN arrows to move the attachment closer to/further away from the avatar and up/down respectively. (see Fig 3.1)
5. You may need to adjust the angle/rotation of the attachments to align with the slope of the chest.  To do this choose “Rotate (Ctrl)” on the Edit window and then move the RED x-axis circle.  You should NOT touch the  y- and z- axis circles. (see Fig 3.2)

Remember, if you go wrong you can use keyboard shortcut CTRL-Z  to undo the last few steps. Use it! I do ALL the time, lol.

I was amazed at the new textures that Skinkie Winkler, owner and designer of ~flirt~ fine jewelry, had come up with. I had always thought that her textures were top notch, then she came up with these new beauties and knocked my socks off! The sparkle and depth of these gemstone textures will leave you awed and amazed. But wait! There’s more!! She’s also updated the metal textures. And – OMG – there’s pewter!

I had been looking for something to wear at a Goth photo shoot I was involved in. I had decided to wear an outfit from Latex Station – DevilJack in black, designed by Chill3 Mills, but had been despairing over what jewelry to pair with it. I thought at first, no, ~flirt~ jewelry would be too dressy for this. But no! These great new metals allow me options I never had before. I decided to wear Full Circle, and with the assistance of a very user friendly texture script with pop up menus, I chose Pewter metal and Amethyst gemstones. Purrrfect!

This amazing set will become available for purchase when the new Main store opens in Rigby. Right now, we have a target date for the opening of July 11th. The set will be available with all sorts of options, to include an All Color set with all the new metals and all the new gemstones.
